Hey what’s up, my name is James. I started this site after nearly 5 years of snoring problems which just about killed my relationship. Open mouth snoring is a problem so many people deal with every night, having personally gone through and using practically every snoring solution out there I figured out what works and what doesn’t.
Right off the bat the best advice I can give you is to make some SOLID lifestyle changes in your diet and exercise. While that’s the long term solution, you probably don’t want to wait months listening to your husband or boyfriend snore all night.
Big factors contributing to snoring
A diet high in carbohydrates and drinking before bed are not helping you. If your eating a diet that is high simple carbohydrates like pastas, breads, potatoes, these foods often contribute to an insulin imbalance. The imbalance results in the body building up an insulin resistance and not being able to handle glucose efficiently. Ideally the way it works is that the insulin binds to cells and transfers glucose into those cells, which is burned for energy. When your eating a high carb / sugar diet this will stop the normal process and cause a build up of both insulin and glucose in the blood, which in turn promotes the build-up of plaque in the blood vessels. This is the main reason so many many doctors are seeing a connection between people with heart disease and sleep apnea or snoring.
Basically what I’m saying is that lower insulin levels will decrease or stop snoring. Sleep apnea is part of an insulin resistance syndrome and be hugely improved with a diet that is low in simple carbohydrates. I personally adopted the paleo diet and I started exercising 2-3 days a week. The diet change and exercise have not only stopped my snoring problems, I sleep way better at night and I wake up rested.

What happens when you snore? Basically your body becomes a musical instrument while sleeping due to vibrations of soft tissues in your mouth and throat caused by your breathing. As we sleep our muscles relax, resulting in the narrowing of the nose, mouth or throat. This narrowing varies from person to person, but the amount of air passing through this region doesn’t change from when we’re awake. Because of the narrowing, the airflow becomes turbulent to accommodate the change in size. As the air pushes through the smaller opening, the tissues surrounding it are stimulated which results in that annoying sound of snoring. Fortunately there are some effective solutions to prevent snoring.
Sleep consultants are a popular alternative to visiting a sleep clinic. Most consultants will make an onsite visit to your home, asses the cause of your sleep disorder and provide advice and process that will enable you to get a good night sleep. Some consultants specialize in either adults or children, if you have children or newborns that are having problems sleeping speak to a consultant that specializes in children. There are several highly recommended sleep consultants in Kelowna B.C. that specialize in sleep disorders in Children.
The National Sleep Foundation estimates that nearly 37 of the 90 million American adults that report snoring are regularly howling beasts in their sleeping state. Not only does this snoring affect the sufferers’ quality of life, as the disrupted sleep is linked to tiredness and can impair daily functioning, but the same affects are true for their bed mates that suffer from the effects of their disturbing snoring too. “I feel so rested after a night of trying to sleep to the sound of my bedmate snoring,” said no person ever.
